General

Storypal is a site that is designed to connect students and guardians from around the world. Students are given a safe space to express themselves, collaborate with others, and gain insight from peers and guardians. Guardians are the adults who mentor and aid students in their interaction with other users. Their involvement is to expand a young user’s critical thinking, communication, creativity, and collaboration skills while building safety and communal trust. They have very specific roles. Their primary role includes communicating with their students and other guardians. Guardians will be contacted by the Storypal team via email. The emails will inform the Guardians of new projects and other subject matter that may benefit their experience on the site.

Students are further aided in improving their writing skills by Premium Reviewers. The purpose of a Premium Reviewer is to edit and comment on students projects.

Safety

We do our best to insure that our site is safe; however Storypal is not liable for any abuse that may happen on the site. We have taken the utmost precautions and measures to combat unsafe actions, but please remember to use your own personal  judgement when using the site.

Definition of Users and User information

Users of our site are guardians, students, or anyone involved in using and running the site. Users must provide accurate informaition about themselves. They must enter thier real name, real school, real location, and so on.  Users must also keep all the information accuarate and up-to-date.

Definition of Guardians

Guardians are educators, parents, or organizations that are committed to students academic success. We have a two-step verification for all of our guardians. Students are also required to have their accounts connected with a main guardian, identified as a “First Guardian” on the site. First guardian assists in safety by aiding in terminating any misconduct that occurs on the site to their set of student(s). The Second Guardian is someone the First Guardian has selected to help guide the student. One guardian is usually a parent  and the other guardian is usually a  teacher. We have a two guardian system in place to help us ensure a safe online experience for all of our students users.

Definition of Premium Reviewers

Premium Reviewers are Storypal Users who comment, edit, and provide feedback on student's projects. Premium Reviewers are hand-picked by the Storypal Team. A Premium Reviewer can range from students from top universities to teachers who have been teaching both in the states and abroad.

Definition of Students

Students are young learners who use Storypal to share information and their stories with others. Students are always encouraged to contact their First Guardian if they feel any misconduct is occurring or has occurred. Guardians and students are also able to use yellow cards as defined below.

Definition of a Yellow Card

Yellow cards are designed to hide content generated by users that does not adhere to the Storypal Expectations. The contents we are referring to are as follows: published stories, uploads, comments, or posts made on the site. The act of yellow carding  content has community functions. After three yellow cards are given to the same content, that content will be removed from the site. It is hidden from the person who received the yellow cards.  Storypal will periodically review the comments that receive yellow cards and see if they are appropriately carded. The user’s can report the misuse of the yellow card function. We reserve the right to remove any content if it does not adhere to our policies or services. Storypal users are to be thoughtful in their actions towards others. They are expected to not share any content on the website that defames themselves or others. They shall not violate any laws both local to their country or internationally.

Yellow cards are given for very specific reason, how you are communicating with other people. Each user must respectfully and thoughtfully communicate with others.  Remember, everyone has their own set of experiences. Since we are a global site, think about all the ways we are unique.

If you do not want to get yellow card do the following:

  1.  Use kind words when you talk to others and when you talk about yourself. Don’t disrespect, offend, or insult others.

  2. Present facts truthfully. Don’t lie, especially about facts users can look up on the internet.

  3. Avoid bickering with other users. Users are always welcome to have debates and disagreements, but avoid making those debates into useless bickering. Try to find common ground and not the “right” answer.

  4.  Do not attack a user for their personal beliefs. Everyone is equal. You share the same rights as everyone else using the site.

Storypal Expectations

There are two main expectations that all users are expected to follow on this site. All users are expected to be thoughtful and powerful. Thoughtful users are ones who think about the greater good. They understand that Storypal is a community and it should be treated as such. Thoughtful users display the values of respect, security, responsibility, and community. Powerful users are the ones who know that their actions and words can change the world. They know how strong even their smallest actions can be. Powerful users know that they influence others. They are expected to understand that if they give a yellow card to another user it has a lot of weight and meaning. They are expected to understand the responsibility that comes with being part of the Storypal community.

User Responsibilities

Storypal has taken precautions to establish credibility of users; however, there is no guarantee of identity or data other users provide is accurate. Storypal is not responsible for disputes, claims, or any sort of conflicts that occur among users. Storypal is not responsible for any damages that may occur in between users while people use our service. All content that is accessed by the user is done at the users own risk. Storypal is not responsible for what happens as a First Guardian follows the other members of the site. Users are responsible for what they say and share with others. The information you share is done so at your own risk.

All users are expected to adhere to the following values.

1. Security: Keep yourself safe and keep others safe. Do not give personal information to strangers. Unless you are given permission by your parent or guardian, users will not meet with other users they meet online. Users will not exchange personal emails. Student Users should inform Storypal and First Guardian if they feel that they are being harassed in anyway.

2. Respect: Put yourself in the others person's position. Users will respect all members of Storypal. They will not behave in any disrespectful manner.

3. Responsibility: All users are accountable for their actions. They are expected to use their power in a meaningful way. They are expected to take responsibility seriously like a superhero does.

4. Community: Users are joining an international community of friends. Users will be accepting of everyone who joins the community regardless of ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or any other factor that makes a person unique.

All Users

All Users agree to follow the international laws of cyberspace and national laws of cyberspace set out by each user’s own country. All users are expected to provide accurate information when using the site.

Guardian Users

The site highly encourages the users to interact with members based on awareness of the affiliation between a guardian and a guided student. To support the safety check through the system, a guide button for a student will only show if a guardian is either a First Guardian or their Second Guardian. Storypal is not responsible for what happens as a Root Guardian follows the other members and guides other students.

It is common of guardians to join the site with one or more student(s) whom they will be guiding through their Storypal experience. A First Guardian may be family members, educational instructors, community mentors or other adults who can guarantee the identity of the student and provide a safety net for the student during online activities. First Guardians will have legal guardianship or a legitimately entrusted role in familial or educational contexts. By joining the site with a student, First Guardian agrees to provide evidence of legal guardianship over the student or the affiliation with the student’s legal guardians who approved and entrusted the protective role to the guardian user if requested by Storypal. If a guardian user fails to provide such evidence within a designated timeline given by Storypal, then the account may be deleted with or without a notice to the user, and associated First Student accounts may also be deleted. If a user joins as a guardian with no students that they are guiding, the user will be an observer of all public activity on the site with no ability to share contents until they have a  student or a guiding student through at least one other First Guardian.

If you are a guardian that is affiliated with a school or any sort of educational system you must have permission from the school or educational system to use our site. Storypal abides by the COPPA rule. Students under the international age of 13 must have the consent of their legal guardian in order to use Storypal. The First Guardian must get consent from all the lawful parties involved in their students’ childcare.

Student Users

Students are asked to provide minimal information. The information Storypal users must provide: username, password, root guardian username, school, first name, last name, interests, gender, country, and city. Storypal uses this information to facilitate networking between students users of Storypal. Parents or guardians must give permission to student users before they are allowed to share this information.

Consent from students legal guardian is required to use the site. Consent is needed because students are not yet of the age to freely share information. When the First Guardians signs up or claim a student user as their Student, they are confirming to Storypal that they are allowing the student to share the minimal information required to make an account. We also ask this of our student and guardian users because of The Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act. This act does not allow online platforms from deliberately collecting personal information of students that are under the age of 13 without parent or First Guardian's consent.

When a student is registering for our site they are pledging that the information they are giving is true and valid. If a student has not been given a first guardian, the user may not share contents on the site. After a first initialization of a first guardian, if a student has more than one guardian, student may share certain contents; however, with certain restrictions that allows direct interaction with other student members. In order to ensure safety of the other users, Storypal may delete accounts of student members without a First Guardian or First Guardian who fails to provide identity verification requested by Storypal with or without a notice.
